Fixing a Scuff to a Vinyl Sofa

November 28, 2020

Repairing a scuff on a plastic sofa means removing it. Although the scuff does no real damage to the plastic surface, it is going to leave an unsightly mark which will absorb ultraviolet rays in the sun better than the surrounding vinyl. That will create the vinyl under the scuff to soften and expand into wrinkles, and it may even create the vinyl more prone to tearing. If the scuff is not removed, it has the potential to transfer to other objects, like clothing.

Wipe the scuff off with a standard baby wipe. This procedure works nicely on lighter-colored scuffs or scuff marks which are more oily and fluid. The ingredients in a baby wipe won’t harm even the most delicate of vinyl, and this ought to be the first method tried before employing a more aggressive method.

Whip up a cup of dish-washing solution by mixing a little dish soap. Apply the solution with a toothbrush and gently rub out the scuff. You can apply more pressure on the brush when the plastic is just a heavier weight. Most rubberized or oily scuffs will come off using this method.

Apply a patented leather scuff remover on the scuff. Permit the chemical to take a seat on the dependence to get a couple minutes before trying to remove it with a paper towel, a rag or a baby wipe. If the scuff does not come off completely, add a few more scuff remover and gently rub it off with an abrasive sponge. Apply just enough pressure onto the sponge to remove the scuff while keeping the plastic scratch-free.
