How to Fix a Rub Mark on Leather Furniture

Leather furniture’s versatility and durability makes it flexible to a lot of decor schemes from modern and contemporary to pastoral and rural. However, not all leather furniture is made equally, as its finish determines its care and cleaning. The right leather conditioning products might help keep your couches, chairs and ottomans looking good for many years to come. State leather furniture at least once or twice a year for best results.

Leather Type

Read the company’s tag if the furniture has you to ascertain the protective finish on your leather. If this info is not available, move to the next actions to test the leather to ascertain the best way to fix the rub mark.

Gently rub on your fingernail over a hidden spot, such as the bottom back of the seat. If it leaves a mark, then you most likely have unfinished leather.

Apply a drop of water to the same hidden spot. If it soaks in and leaves a wet spot, the leather is unfinished. If it doesn’t, the leather has a protective coating and is finished.

Unfinished Leather

Dampen a sponge with water and wring it out. Scoop a dime-sized pat of saddle soap up with the sponge.

Utilize the saddle soap into the rub mark, which makes a mild lather. Rub on the saddle soap in circles using the sponge.

Wash a clean cloth in cool water, wring it out and wipe the lather from the furniture.

Buff the spot using a dry microfiber cloth. Rub the spot in small circles as you buff the leather.

Apply leather conditioner or oil created for unfinished leather with a dry microfiber cloth to the leather surface. Buff it until it dissipates into the leather and produces the rub mark disappear.

Finished Leather

Apply a drop of mild moisturizing soap, such as unscented hand soap, to a damp microfiber cloth.

Rub the soap into the mark to make mild suds.

Dip the cloth in clean rinse water and wring it out. Wipe off any residual soap or lather from the furniture. .

Buff the rub mark using a dry microfiber towel. Put on the microfiber cloth to the surface, working in small circles over the area.

Treat the spot with leather conditioner designed for finished leather. Dab the spot with a cotton swab soaked from the conditioner. Let dry, then buff to a small sheen.
