Quick Update: Wonderful Black Lampshades

October 21, 2018

Sometimes, you need a tiny black. Think about a bright and crisp whitened space. A black accent here or there will help to maintain the space from looking too visionary. Check out these rooms where a black lampshade (or two) adds some drama — and looks both contemporary and chic. I am warming up to the idea of black lampshades, particularly in the bedroom, because they feel romantic in that moody kind of fashion.

Shiny, glossy, black. This black lampshade is about the moody drama. Here, the dark painted wall, dark wood cupboard, black lamp, and black lampshade unite to make one romantic, chic space.

Hint : A shiny, black lampshade can go one of two ways with fashion. It may look super glam and girly — believe chandelier, crystal table lamp — it may feel moody and somewhat manly, such as this space. Here the glossy black color creates a classic contemporary style with the other elements of the space.

Have a look at the bed in this white bedroomthere’s the framed art above with the dark mats, black pieces furniture, and blend of white, black, gray and red bedding. Now picture white lampshades in addition to those red table lamps. Totally different look, right? Black is the perfect fit.

Hint : If you are worried about making the jump to black lampshades, try out a drum-shaped colour. A black drum color has clean, simple lines that will work with most any style — whether your room is contemporary or grounded with much more classic pieces.

In this corner of a room, there is a lot going on visually with the shelving and books and exposed brick. A white lampshade would have stood out as a vivid contrast. Here the black lampshade recedes more in the background for a quieter look.

Who states chandeliers must have small white shades? This chandelier is topped with glamorous small black shades, which only add to the sense of love.

It is certainly unusual to observe a black lampshade at a nursery, but here it totally works. The balanced mix of white, yellow, gray and black makes for one mod color palette.

This room seems so bright. The black lampshade will help to balance all the white and splashes of citron yellow.

Hint : Think about contrast when you are deciding whether to go white or black with your lampshade. Which are the other colors in your area? Do you require something dark to balance a lot of white, light colors? The majority of the time, black shades function as an accent that pops in a room. So be sure that you love the lamp, since it will be among the first things people notice.

This black lampshade has a more traditional shape. The black complements all the dark elements within the room, providing another example of a black lampshade with a quieter fashion.

The black color of this pendant light draws up your eyes to the ceiling of this room. It is the contrast of the black color with the mostly white space that catches your attention.
