How to Quit Your Mirror From Streaking

June 24, 2022

Keeping a mirror streak-free may seem like a struggle in case your existing cleaning methods aren’t preventing those unsightly marks. After a thorough cleaning, streaks left behind make the mirror look like it needs to be cleaned , leading to an infinite loop of cleaning chores.

The Rubdown

A pre-treatment is the key to a streak-free finish on that mirror. Greasy, gooey materials like splatters of mouthwash or toothpaste smear as you wash the mirror, which may make the surface look much messier than it did before you began. Rubbing alcohol applied to a cotton ball wipes off the gunk, which means it is possible to get down to the dirty work. Apply the alcohol into any noticeable spots, wiping them until they disappear. Use a few cotton balls, rather than the exact same one over and over, if the mirror is particularly dirty.

Apparent Cleaner

The wrong kind of cleaner used on a mirror results in streaks or regions that look smudged, even after cleansing. Soapy cleaners leave behind a residue that makes them less than ideal for windows or mirrors. Mix one or two tablespoons into a spray bottle of water to get a homemade cleaning solution that also breaks down tough water spots.

The Soft Touch

In spite of an appropriate cleaner, with the wrong kind of material to wash or wash the mirror may lead to streaks, scratches or lint left on the glass. A lint-free microfiber cloth is key to a streak-free shine. Spray the homemade glass cleaner over the mirror surface, then wash the mirror in parallel, overlapping rows, starting in a top corner of the mirror. A cloth big enough to fold a few times provides an easy-to-handle mirror wash that may be unfolded and refolded to show a fresh surface.

Squeegee Squeaky Clean

A squeegee is easy to wash the cleaning option off big mirrors. Dry the very top of the mirror with a lint-free microfiber cloth, then operate the squeegee in parallel rows, slightly overlapping each time and massaging the squeegee rubber onto a cone between wipes. This technique works on windows. Newspaper provides yet another option; chunk up a piece of black and white paper and rub it over the mirror after spraying on the mirror with cleanser, buffing until the mirror is dry. Unlike paper towels, paper doesn’t leave lint behind.
